Your visit to Playa Las Gatas begins with pick-up at your Ixtapa resort in an air-conditioned vehicle that will take you to the Zihuatanejo pier, just a few minutes away. You'll be taking a boat to enjoy the secluded area of Las Gatas, which means 'Beach of Cats', referring to the whiskered nurse sharks who used to swarm the coral reef. A paved walkway leads you to El Faro lighthouse for cliff views of Ixtapa, and the Las Gatas Beach Club is a nature preserve filled with flora, fauna and iguanas. When you're ready to hit the water, your English-speaking guides will get you ready for snorkeling if you wish to rent out the equipment right on the beach, or just swim in the warm waters and relax on the white sand. Although the area is isolated, Las Gatas does feature some amenities from civilization. A complimentary lunch will be provided on this gorgeous beach before you're brought back to Zihuatanejo to be transported to your Ixtapa resort.

• Bring a towel, hat, sunglasses, biodegradable sunscreen, extra T-shirt, camera and money for rentals on the beach, tips and souvenirs (tipping is optional)
